Historic Halifax State Historic Site

. Description:  Early Roanoke River settlement played an active part in the American Revolution and remained prosperous until bypassed by the railroads in the 1830s.  Visitor center, guided tours of seven buildings from the 1760 Owens house to the 1838 jail, and an archaeological site.

What kind of visit you can have: The Visitor Center offers an introductory tour and exhibits and is the origination point for all tours. There are three tours available, from 25-45 minutes. Historic buildings  include several houses, a tavern, Clerk of Court's Office, and jail.  There is also an archaeological exhibit constructed over an excavation.
